Image Compression

Phone cameras produce photos that are typically 5–10 MB. The scanner automatically compresses images before uploading:

Skip threshold	Files under 500 KB are not recompressed

The compression happens in your browser before the file is sent to the server, so it’s fast and doesn’t use your data.

Note

PDFs and HEIC images are not compressed because they need to be sent in their original format for accurate AI analysis. Make sure PDF receipts are under 10 MB.

Tips by Format

Photos (JPEG, PNG, WebP)

Best for most receipts. Take a clear photo with good lighting. The AI handles:

• Rotated images (EXIF orientation is preserved)
• Slightly angled photos
• Multiple items on a single receipt

HEIC (iPhone Photos)

iPhone photos in HEIC format are supported natively. No need to convert to JPEG first.

PDF

PDF receipts (from email or online purchases) are supported. The AI can read:

• Text-based PDFs (most accurate)
• Scanned PDFs (image-based)
• Multi-page PDFs (AI reads all pages)

Tip

For the best results with PDF receipts, use the original PDF rather than a screenshot. Text-based PDFs are more accurate than scanned images.
